1. Mayans Had Advanced Writing and Books – The Maya, like the Egyptians, wrote in hieroglyphs. They covered their cities with the hieroglyphs, which they combined into full sentences and stories. They used the soft inner bark of fig trees to construct books and they wrote the hieroglyphs out with quills made from turkey feathers.
2. Mayans Practiced Blood Sacrifices – Like many ancient people, the Mayans practiced blood sacrifice in order to appease their gods. They believed that the sacrifice could bring prosperity and help avoid adversity.
3. Mayans Had Saunas – Mayans believed that sweating was a form of purification, and the sweat bath, or zumpul-ché, was and important part of many daily activities. Sweat baths were used to treat illness, revitalize, and the clean the body.
