An announcement at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con informed fans that Universal will be releasing a new King Kong movie in 2016 called Skull Island. Interestingly, Universal Orlando already has began construction on a new King Kong attraction at Islands of Adventure.
Most movie-themed attractions come to theme parks after the movie has become a hit, but Universal seems to be ahead of the game in anticipating fans’ excitement for the franchise. This isn’t the first time a movie-themed attraction has been premiered before it’s movie-inspiration is released – Disney’s “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” attraction debuted a full seven months before the movie A Bug’s Life opened in theaters, and “Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage” open the same day as the now-classic film.
Skull Island is scheduled to be released in a little over two years, so Universal’s new King Kong attraction must be finished by then to beat the movie opening.
